"The Dark Tower"
The Dark Tower is an upcoming American science fantasy western film directed and co-written by Nikolaj Arcel.[2] A Continuation of Stephen King's novel series of the same name, inspired by the series, the film stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, a gunslinger on a quest to protect the Dark Tower – a mythical structure which supports all realities – and Matthew McConaughey as his nemesis, Walter Padick.
Intended to launch a film and television franchise, the first installment combines elements from several novels in the eight-volume series, taking place partly in modern-day New York City and partly in Mid-World, Roland's Old West-style parallel universe. Additionally, King has tweeted a photo of the Horn of Eld with the caption "Last Time Around", which relates to the ending of the final book, The Dark Tower VII; Arcel has said that fans will know the movie is a sequel to the books' events.[3] The film is set to be released on August 4, 2017 in 3D and 2D by Columbia Pictures.
"The Great Wall"
The Great Wall (Chinese: 长城) is a 2016 monster film directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Matt Damon, who plays a European mercenary in China during the Song dynasty. He encounters the Great Wall of China and meets Chinese soldiers who defend against monsters. The Chinese–US co-production also stars Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau.
Principal photography for the film began on March 30, 2015, in Qingdao, China, and it premiered in Beijing on December 6, 2016. It was released by China Film Group in China on December 15, 2016, and in the United States on February 17, 2017, by Universal. The film received mixed reviews and grossed $332 million worldwide against its $150 million production budget and was deemed a box office disappointment, losing the studio about $75 million
"Power Rangers"
Saban's Power Rangers[3] (or simply Power Rangers) is a 2017 American superhero film based on the team of the same name, directed by Dean Israelite and written by John Gatins. It is the third film of the Power Rangers film, and is a reboot that features the main characters of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series, portrayed by a new cast. The film features Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Bill Hader, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks.
It is the first blockbuster film to feature LGBTQ and autistic superheroes.[4][5] Franchise creator Haim Saban returned to produce the film under his investment firm. The film premiered at Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles on March 22, 2017 and was released in the United States on March 24, 2017. The film received mixed reviews from critics and has grossed $135 million worldwide.
"The Shack"
The Shack is a novel by Canadian author William P. Young that was published in 2007.
The novel was self-published but became a USA Today bestseller, having sold 1 million copies as of June 8, 2008.[2] It was the No. 1 paperback trade fiction seller on The New York Times Best Seller list from June 2008 to early 2010,[3] in a publishing partnership with Hachette Book Group USA's FaithWords imprint (Hodder & Stoughton in the UK). In 2009 it was awarded the "Diamond Award" for sales of over 10 million copies by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.[4]
The title of the book is a metaphor for "the house you build out of your own pain", as Young explained in a telephone interview.[5] He also told radio host talk show Drew Marshall that The Shack "is a metaphor for the places you get stuck, you get hurt, you get damaged...the thing where shame or hurt is centered.
"A Dog's Purpose"
A Dog's Purpose is a 2017 American comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallström and written by W. Bruce Cameron, Cathryn Michon, Audrey Wells, Maya Forbes and Wally Wolodarsky, based on the 2010 novel of the same name by Cameron. The film stars Britt Robertson, KJ Apa, Juliet Rylance, John Ortiz, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Peggy Lipton, Dennis Quaid and Josh Gad.
The film is co-production between Amblin Entertainment, Reliance Entertainment, Walden Media, and Pariah Entertainment Group.[4][5] It was released by Universal Pictures on January 27, 2017 and grossed nearly $185 million worldwide.
"John Wick: Chapter 2"
John Wick: Chapter 2 is a 2017 American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad. The second installment of the John Wick series, the plot follows hitman John Wick, who goes on the run after a bounty is placed on his head. It stars Keanu Reeves, Common, Laurence Fishburne, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ruby Rose, John Leguizamo and Ian McShane, and marks the first collaboration between Reeves and Fishburne since appearing together in The Matrix trilogy.
Principal photography began on October 26, 2015, in New York City. The film premiered in Los Angeles on January 30, 2017, and was theatrically released in the United States on February 10, 2017. It received positive reviews from critics and so far has grossed $164.7 million worldwide, over four times its $40 million budget
